Beavis and Butt-Head (SEGA GENESIS) Action-adventure 1994

Beavis and Butthead (also known as MTV's Beavis and Butthead: The Game) is a series of three video games based on the animated television series of the same name that were released in 1994 by Viacom New Media for the Super NES, Genesis/Mega Drive, and Game Gear. The three versions change primarily in the core idea, which involves the titular individuals looking for tickets to a Gwar performance. The band's music was touted as being included in the games. GT Interactive Software later produced a fourth version for the Game Boy sans the Gwar tie-in in 1998.

Premise:

It is based on MTV's animated series of the same name, and it follows the lead characters Beavis and Butt-Head as they search for their torn-up Gwar concert tickets.

Development:

Realtime Associates created the Super NES version, NuFX created the Game Gear version, and Radical Entertainment created the Genesis/Mega Drive version, all of which were published by Viacom New Media and launched in 1994. A Game Boy version, developed by Torus Games and published by GT Interactive in 1998, centered on the lads attempting to join Todd's gang.

Reception:

GamePro said of the Genesis version, "Beavis and Butt-Head is for players who have both thumb speed and the patience to go on a protracted garbage quest to solve cryptic riddles." They criticized the substantial trial-and-error needed in collecting objects, but appreciated the controls and visual style's consistency with the TV show's aesthetic. According to Electronic Gaming Monthly, fans of the TV program will likely enjoy the game, but everyone else will not. According to Next Generation, "Beavis and Butthead is a game that proves that although dumb comedy and loads of farts make wonderful TV, it stinks as a game."

The game "doesn't stink, but it doesn't rule," according to GamePro's assessment of the Super NES version. They commended the controls and the replication of the TV show's aesthetic once more, but called the gameplay "straightforward yet unimaginative."
