Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck (SEGA GENESIS) Platform 1993

Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck is a comedy side-scrolling platform video game released in 1993 for the Amiga, Amiga CD32, Sega Game Gear, Sega Mega-CD, Sega Master System, and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by Virgin Interactive Entertainment.

The tale begins shortly after the first game concludes. Chuck and Ophelia Rock had a baby named Chuck Junior after Chuck saved his wife, Ophelia Rock, from the T-Rex bully Gary Gritter. Chuck senior works at a factory, where he learns to carve vehicles out of stone. A competitor manufacturer dubbed Brick Jagger (a play on Rolling Stones lead vocalist Mick Jagger) is jealous of Chuck's powers and kidnaps him, leaving Junior to rescue his father.

The gameplay is identical to the original game, with small modifications such as the player controlling Junior rather than Chuck. This is a side-scrolling platformer with some rock-moving puzzles thrown in for good measure. Junior, unlike Chuck, carries a club, which extends the range of his assaults.

The soundtrack for Chuck Rock II is acid jazz. The closing credits mention several modern acid jazz bands, presumably as influences. The game's boss, "Ozrics Tentacles," is named after the psychedelic music band Ozric Tentacles.

Gaming on Electronic Devices Monthly praised the Game Gear for retaining all of the features and technical merits of the Genesis version, highlighting the massive levels, "lots of technique," and good animations, though they criticized the control for being too loose. They give it a 7 out of 10 rating. They scored the Sega CD version a 6.8 out of 10, noting that the control is too stiff this time around, while appreciating the opening film and the several pieces of comedy incorporated throughout the level designs.
