Chuck Rock (SEGA GENESIS) Platform 1992

Chuck Rock is a humorous side-scrolling platform video game released by Core Design in 1991 for the Atari ST and Amiga computers. In 1992, a Commodore 64 port was released, and in 1994, an Amiga CD32 version was released. Krisalis Software later published the game on the Acorn Archimedes. The game was published by Virgin Interactive for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Master System, and Game Gear. The game was released by Sony Imagesoft for the Sega Mega-CD, Super NES, and Game Boy.

Before the launch of Lara Croft in the 1996 game Tomb Raider, the figure of Chuck Rock was an early mascot for Core Design, and the character of Chuck Rock himself and his family even appeared in various UK comic books of the 1990s.

Two video game sequels followed Chuck Rock.

Plot:

The game's setting is a fictional prehistorical Stone Age-era world shared by neanderthals, woolly mammoths, saber-tooth tigers, dinosaurs, and various assorted wild primeval monsters such as prehistoric mammals, giant insects, human-eating plants, and other exotica; thus, the setting is similar to that of films like One Million Years B.C. or television shows like The Flintstones or Dinosaurs.

The titular Chuck Rock is an overweight, square-jawed caveman who exhibits loutish and obscene behavior, maybe influenced by 1990s boy culture. Chuck has a limited vocabulary (his favorite word is "Unga Bunga," and he doesn't say much else), a balding head trimmed into a punk-style mohawk, eats full dinosaur-steaks uncooked in one bite, and a predilection for picking up rocks and tossing them at objects, hence his moniker. Chuck is a guitarist and vocalist (or shouter) in a rock band with several other cavemen, his lovely wife Ophelia Rock, and a long-haired dinosaur bass player, and he wears a long wig to disguise his balding head on stage.

Ophelia Rock is abducted one day by a jealous local bully named Garry Gritter (a play on the name of contemporaneous pop sensation Gary Glitter) and taken to Gritter's hideout in the scary dinosaur graveyard. Chuck must seek for her across prehistoric jungles, marshes, lakes, an ice-capped mountain top, caverns, and even the insides of a massive dinosaur.

Gameplay:

Some dinosaurs will aid Chuck, such as the brontosaurus that helps Chuck cross a marsh, but practically all of the dinosaurs he encounters will attack him. The game was renowned for the main form of defense, which was belly bouncing with Chuck's beer belly, as well as Chuck's catchphrase "unga bunga!" at the start of each level. The character could also pick up and "hurl" pebbles at opponents. The game also has a puzzle aspect, as specific pebbles are utilized to reach high locations. The size of a heart sign represents health. Finding and eating dinosaur steaks can improve your health and score. At the conclusion of each level, there is a boss.
