Cool Spot (SEGA GENESIS) Platform 1994

Cool Spot is a platform game released by Virgin Games in 1993 for the Mega Drive/Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. In 1994, additional teams converted the game to the Master System, Game Gear, Game Boy, Amiga, and MS-DOS. Cool Spot, a mascot for the soft drink brand 7 Up, is the title character. Cool Spot's emergence in his own video game coincided with the appearance of other brand mascots (such as Chester Cheetah and the Noid) in their own video games.

The player controls the title character in Cool Spot, a single-player platform game. Cool Spot has the ability to jump and attack by releasing soda bubbles in any direction. By leaping in front of them, Cool Spot may cling on and climb various items. In each level, the player must free other cool spots who all look the same from their cages. To do so, the player must gather a set amount of "spots," which alter (typically increase) as the game proceeds. A vast number of "spots" are scattered over the level. A funny Cool Spot face monitors the player's health, gradually bending forward and finally falling from its place when damage happens. Touching adversaries, their projectiles, and some other barriers causes damage. Each level has a time limit as well. The game does not have a save feature, but it does include checkpoints in the shape of flagpoles.

After defeating a level and successfully collecting enough Spots to access the Bonus Stage, the player can acquire Continues by snagging a letter concealed within the stage. Depending on the version of the game, all letters spell either "UNCOLA" (the tagline of 7 Up) or "VIRGIN" (the game's producer). Spot will be allowed to begin on the level he was on when he lost his final life if a Continue letter is acquired, albeit his total points will be reset.
