Bonanza Bros. (SEGA GENESIS) Action 1991

Bonanza Bros. (sometimes spelled Bonanza Brothers) is a Sega 3D-style, 2D side-scrolling stealth action game published in 1990. It was one of the first arcade games to use the Sega System 24 arcade system board. It was ported to a variety of home systems, including the Mega Drive/Genesis, Master System, PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-CD, and a number of personal computers.

Gameplay:

Bonanza Bros. is a side-scrolling stealth action game featuring elements of a shooter and a platform game. The players take on the roles of one or both of the Robo (1P, red) and Mobo (2P, blue) brothers (Mike and Spike in some PAL versions), who may have been inspired by The Blues Brothers. The goal of the game is to sneak around each building while dodging guards, grab many things within a time restriction, and then proceed to the roof where a blimp awaits with the bounty. The narrative and gameplay are identical to the classic Atari 2600 title Keystone Kapers, but with additional elements akin to Lock 'n' Chase. Because the screen is always split in two, two players can play collaboratively at the same time.

The brothers rob a bank, a millionaire's residence, a casino, a mint, an art gallery, and a treasury. While the graphics and gameplay are similar, the story and role of the Bonanza Bros. differ from the original Japanese to the early western versions: in the former, the duo are thieves attempting to steal valuable treasures for profit while avoiding arrest; in the latter, they are recruited by the Police Chief of Badville to test security facilities and assist the police in recovering evidence from various crooked businesses and institutions, but on the threat of jail if they fail.

The player may walk, leap, fire, and move behind a column or huge furniture, allowing for both hiding and evading bullets from the guards, who can only be stunned for a few seconds using the pistol or forcing a door against them. They are alerted by sounds or the Brothers approaching their area of vision, at which point they may hide, cry for aid, or shoot at the player. Some guards are equipped with riot shields and can only be hit while moving away. If a player is hit by a guard's projectile or melee assault, attacked by a dog, pressed by a door, or fails to perform a leap onto a springboard or zipline and becomes stuck in the ground, he or she loses a life. When a life is lost in this manner, the player must discard all items. When players run out of time, they lose a life and must restart the level.
