Double Dragon II - The Revenge (SEGA GENESIS) Beat 'em up 1991

Double Dragon II: The Revenge (ダブルドラゴンII ザ・リベンジ) is a beat-'em-up game for the Sega Mega Drive developed by Quest and published by PALSOFT. It was published only in Japan in December 1991 as a port of the title 1989 Technos arcade game Double Dragon II: The Revenge.

After the nuclear war, the city was dominated by violence during the end of the twentieth century. The residents of the city were terrified of the Black Warriors, a criminal group with enormous power. On the outskirts of the city, twin brothers named Jimmy and Billy Lee had their own kung-fu academy.

The Black Warriors were assembled in a certain location one day after their normal rampage around the city when a young woman inadvertently wandered into their meeting. The group slaughtered her mercilessly. Marian was Billy Lee's girlfriend's name. Billy sets off on a journey with his elder brother Jimmy to get revenge on the Black Warriors.

The game is a belt-scrolling beat-'em-up for one or two players. Billy, who wears a dark blue clothing and has blond hair, is controlled by player one, while Jimmy, who wears white and has brown hair, is controlled by player two. During gaming, the second player can join by hitting START.

The D-Pad is used by the brothers to navigate the plane. Instead of having separate buttons for punching and kicking, the brothers attack to the left with A and to the right with C. They jump beside B. When standing, pushing the front attack button allows the character to fire a flurry of punches in the direction he is facing, while using the rear attack button causes him to kick. The front attack button conducts repeated knee kicks while gripping an attacker, while the rear attack button executes a shoulder throw. When the player presses the attack button at the top of the character's jump, he or she performs a whirlwind kick (旋風脚), which sends adversaries from both sides flying away. As in the last game, certain adversaries' weapons can be disarmed and used against them, while huge objects can be picked up and hurled (using an attack button).

The brothers have health meters that deplete when they receive damage from their opponents. They lose a life if they lose all of their health, however they can be revived in place for a brief period if the player has spare lives. There are also some simple platforming sequences where characters can die if they fall off the stage. Players will also lose a life if the stage timer expires. If the player runs out of lives, the game ends, although it can be restarted if there are credits left.

There are three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, and Hard), and players may select how many lives they start with (3, 4, or 5).
