The Death and Return of Superman (SEGA GENESIS) Beat 'em up 1995

The Death and Return of Superman is a 1995 beat-'em-up developed by Blizzard Entertainment and Sunsoft for the Sega Mega Drive and Super NES that is based on the Death and Return of Superman comic book storyline.

After a massive battle with the supervillain Doomsday, an evil creature menacing Metropolis, Doomsday is defeated, but Superman is killed. Months later, four Supermen arise, each claiming to be the original Superman, in an attempt to replace the real Superman: Cyborg Superman, the Eradicator, Steel, and Superboy. An nefarious power continues to harm Metropolis, and it is up to the four protagonists to uncover it and track down the true Superman.

The game is a belt-scrolling beat-'em-up in which you play as Superman and four other Supermen. The level determines the presently playing character rather than the player. While the characters' appearances change, they have the same core skills.

The D-Pad allows characters to travel in any direction on the plane. They assault with B, striking and kicking. When they are near to their opponents, they use B to grasp them. They may pound an opponent with Down+B or throw them by holding any other direction with B while gripping them. Throwing foes towards breakable portions of the level can sometimes reveal hidden goodies. Crates, for example, may be picked up and tossed at opponents using B. Each character possesses a "Super Weapon," which is a projectile assault that causes little damage but temporarily stuns opponents when used with A. Characters can use A+B to launch a screen-clearing special assault. These attacks have a limited number of uses, but they may be recharged by obtaining Superman shield symbols.

Characters take a leap with C. They conduct a diving attack while in flight by pressing B. Each Superman may fly by pressing C again in flight and moving with the D-Pad. They can escape opponents and obstacles while flying. While flying, characters can punch and utilize their Super Weapons. Some foes can fly and are simpler to fight when attacked in the air. Some impediments can only be overcome by flying.

Some stages can only be completed by flying. These stages, similar to a shoot-'em-up, scroll automatically. Characters in these levels may travel in any direction by using the D-Pad. They can't punch, but they can use B to launch projectiles (which can be held down for rapid-fire). Steel has a one-of-a-kind flying level that does not scroll automatically and in which he uses his melee attack instead of his projectile attack.

Characters' health bar depletes when they receive damage from enemies. They lose a life when they run out of health, but they can be revived after a brief period of time if the player has spare lives. If the player runs out of lives, the game ends, however it can be resumed from the beginning of the current level.
