Earthworm Jim 2 (アースワーム・ジム２) is the direct sequel to Earthworm Jim and was released in 1995 for the Sega Mega Drive, among other systems. On the Sega Saturn, an improved version was produced.
It keeps the weird comedy from the original game and was followed in 1999 by Earthworm Jim 3D.
Story:
Following the events of the last game, Earthworm Jim had successfully withdrawn the cow (which he had accidentally thrown) from atop Princess Whats-Her-Name, reinflated the squished woman, and won her love. Psy-Crow, on the other hand, kidnaps the Princess and plots to marry her in the Las Vegas system in order to take over the cosmos. Jim, with the assistance of Snott, must trace their trail via his adversaries' many vacation houses.
Gameplay:
Earthworm Jim 2 features more varied gameplay than its predecessor, yet being quite similar. There are regular platforming stages, as well as quiz questions, an isometric shoot 'em up level, and different platforming adaptations, such as marathon races and a stage where Jim must blast his way through piles of dirt.
Jim is controlled similarly to the first game, although with several new and altered skills. He can still fire his rifle by pressing A and whip his head with B when on the ground, but he can no longer whip his head in the air. Instead, hitting C while in the air causes Jim to fling Snott in front of him, allowing him to grip and hang from mucous-covered ceilings. The Snott parachute, which is achieved by holding A in the air, has replaced Jim's ability to spin his head like a helicopter. Heavy things, such as animals and furniture, may be lifted and carried in some levels by pressing Down by one, however employing any attacks will cause Jim to drop the object. In the Saturn version, pressing X will cycle between the weapons Jim has amassed.
